Olympic Museum Collections
For each edition of the Games, a pool of sports photographers is commissioned to cover the event and given a precise brief. Thousands of images are taken and kept in the IOC’s archives. Some photographers take a particularly creative approach, as demonstrated by this exhibition, which contains a selection of never-before-seen images from Paris. The Paris 2024 Organising Committee gave photographers free rein to showcase their artistic talent, leading to photos that are quite different from those normally supplied by press agencies. "Sport in Focus“ at the Olympic Museum displays some of these images, demonstrating how sports photography can be about more than capturing the sporting action; it can also produce images of real artistic merit. Part of the “Sport in Focus” exhibition can also be seen at Photo Elysée from March 28 to to August 17, 2025.
