The Chasseron meteorite, named after the place it was found in the Jura Vaudois district, is the only one of its kind in Switzerland. Discovered in 1959 by a schoolboy, it was only o cially recognised in 2018. This precious pallasite is made up of peridot gemmy crystals embedded in an alloy of iron, nickel and cobalt. In short, the Cantonal Museum of Geolo currently presents with a genuine extra-terrestrial gem.
